Year 6 Pupils

Introduction

The Year 6 Schools Roundel Competition invites pupils to design a ten inch stained glass roundel inspired by the stewardship and values of the 696th Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Alastair King DL (2024–2025).

First launched in 2018, this stream has become one of the most imaginative parts of the wider competition. Year 6 pupils bring curiosity, research skills and creative thinking to their designs. Each roundel shows how young people understand leadership, civic responsibility and the stories that shape the City.

In 2026, one Year 6 pupil’s artwork will be selected and crafted into a permanent stained glass roundel by a professional practitioner. The finished work will be unveiled at the 2026 Reflections Gala and displayed at the winning school as a long lasting celebration of creativity and learning.

Winners will be notified through their school and featured on Reflections of The Lord Mayor channels.

Key Dates

Call opens: 1 February 2026
Submission deadline: 30 April 2026 (17h00 UK time)
Judging period: May 2026
Reflections Gala Evening: July 2026, London (venue to be announced)

The Prize

The winning Year 6 pupil will receive:

  • £100 prize presented at the Reflections Gala
  • A personalised YETI Rambler mug engraved with name and year
  • Gala Reception invitation for the pupil, a parent or guardian, and a school representative
  • A full page in the Gala Programme with the design and pupil statement

  • A 50 word school profile included in the digital programme

  • Permanent display of the finished roundel at the winning school
  • Certificate of accomplishment

If the pupil is unable to attend the Gala, their work will still be presented and acknowledged.

2025 Requirements

Each pupil may submit:

1. A coloured roundel design

  • Circular artwork for a ten inch (254 mm) stained glass roundel

  • Reflecting the stewardship and civic story of the 696th Lord Mayor

  • Must include the inscription:
    “Reflections of the 696th Lord Mayor of London • 2026”

2. A short written explanation (100 to 150 words)

Pupils should describe:

  • The ideas behind the design

  • What stood out from the Lord Mayor’s year

  • Any colours, symbols or shapes chosen and why they matter

Pupils are not expected to make stained glass.
The winning design will be fabricated by a professional practitioner.

Entry Form

Teachers should upload:

  • A clear scan or photograph of the artwork
  • The pupil’s written explanation
  • The pupil’s first name and initial
  • School name and contact email

Submissions should be approved by the school.
