Why Reflections became an Arts Award Centre
Reflections of The Lord Mayor aspired to become an Arts Award Centre after recognising a growing need to honour young people’s creative journeys with care, clarity and high standards, while retaining the warmth and civic purpose at the heart of the work.
Long before accreditation, young people were already engaging in thoughtful creative activity through stained glass, storytelling and reflective practice. Participants were encouraged to take their work seriously, reflect on their learning, and understand their place within a wider community.
Arts Award offered a framework to recognise this learning without reshaping it. In that sense, it became a means to acknowledge work already taking place, rather than an end in itself.

This aligns closely with Reflections’ belief that creativity develops confidence, responsibility and a sense of belonging.

Accredited Arts Award Centre
Reflections of The Lord Mayor is authorised by Trinity College London to deliver nationally recognised Arts Award qualifications, supported by Arts Council England.
Arts Award is delivered through supported creative journeys, not isolated tasks.
Programmes are rooted in stewardship, sustainability and service, and are designed to be safe, inclusive and responsive to different learning needs.

Discover & Explore
While Arts Award includes five levels overall, Reflections’ current delivery focuses on:
- Arts Award Discover
- Arts Award Explore
These foundation levels align most closely with our youth and community partnerships and support young people to engage with creativity at an appropriate developmental stage.
- Discover introduces creative exploration and reflective thinking.
- Explore supports greater independence, communication and personal insight.
Higher levels may be introduced as programmes mature and participants are ready to progress.

Delivered with Junior Sea Cadets, Arts Award Explore supports young people to develop ideas, reflect on their learning, and share their creative journey with others.
Arts Award Discover in practice
Delivered with St John Ambulance Badgers, Arts Award Discover introduces young people to creative exploration and reflection through structured, supportive sessions.

Take Part
Youth Organisation Route
Arts Award is delivered through trusted partners such as the Marine Society & Sea Cadets and St John Ambulance. Young people take part through their unit, supported by trained Arts Award Advisers in familiar settings.
Reflections Devised Route
Reflections also designs Arts Award-aligned creative pathways, including:
- Stained Glass and Civic Stories
- Pollinator Perspectives (Junior Sea Cadets)
A further pathway is in development for launch in late 2026.

Arts Award delivery at Reflections is supported by a clear governance structure and defined safeguarding responsibilities.
Policies, safeguarding and good governance
As an accredited Arts Award Centre, Reflections operates within a robust policy framework to ensure all activity is safe, inclusive and well governed.
Policies include:

- complaints and concerns
- data protection and privacy
- equality, diversity and inclusion
- codes of conduct for staff, artists and volunteers
All policies are approved at organisational level, reviewed regularly and aligned with Arts Award Centre requirements and recognised good practice.

Photography, video and consent
Photography and short video clips may be captured during sessions, events and public showcases to evidence Arts Award activity. This is done carefully, with attention to:
- dignity and respectful representation
- age-appropriate safeguarding
- nformed consent and choice
- UK data protection requirements

Arts Award delivery at Reflections works alongside existing provision, offering an accredited creative pathway that complements — rather than replaces — what partners already do.
We welcome conversations with organisations that share an interest in creative learning, reflection and civic engagement.
Supporting Arts Award
Through Creative Pathways
Delivering Arts Award through Reflections takes a different form from classroom-based delivery. Our programmes are shaped through artist-led practice, youth organisations, and carefully supported creative journeys — often in settings where access to accredited creative learning would otherwise be limited.
To date, Arts Award delivery at Reflections of The Lord Mayor has been personally underwritten by its Founder, allowing the work to be established with care, independence, and integrity. As participation grows and pathways develop, sustaining this work responsibly now requires shared support — not to expand hastily, but to grow well.
Rather than sponsoring individuals, partners are invited to support a Creative Pathway: the professional, safeguarding-led infrastructure that makes accredited participation possible year to year.
What Sponsorship Enables
Creative Pathway sponsorship is ring-fenced to Arts Award delivery and progression. Support contributes directly to:
- Training, support, and retention of skilled Arts Award Advisers
- National moderation and certification through Trinity College London
- Artist-led delivery and high-quality creative materials
- Safeguarding, insurance, and programme coordination
- Accessibility support and structured progression from Discover to Explore
Together, these elements ensure that access is based on curiosity and commitment — not cost or circumstance.
What Sponsors Receive
Reflections approaches sponsorship as a values-led partnership, offering meaningful recognition rather than overt commercial branding.
All Creative Pathway sponsors receive:
- Logo placement on the Reflections website
- Inclusion on relevant Arts Award Centre or programme pages
- Recognition in programme communications
- Acknowledgement in Reflections Programme Booklet(s) for relevant events
- A short post-programme impact summary outlining what the support enabled
