Extending the light beyond the Gala
Reflections of The Lord Mayor has always been about more than one evening at Guildhall.
It is a platform for creativity, civic responsibility and stewardship — and the Reflections Arts & Veteran Fellowship Fund ensures that this legacy continues throughout the year. The Fund exists for one simple reason: to turn generosity into opportunity.
It ensures that sponsor support and designated contributions remove financial barriers for young people and veterans who would otherwise struggle to participate in creative, developmental programmes.
All contributions to the Reflections Arts & Veteran Fellowship Fund are used exclusively to remove financial barriers to participation and are never applied to event production or administrative costs.
How the Fund Is Financed
The Reflections Arts & Veteran Fellowship Fund is supported through clearly defined and ring-fenced contributions.
- 10% of every Gala ticket is directed to the beneficiary chosen by Alderman Alastair King in this anniversary year
- Sponsors contribute separately to the Fellowship Fund
- These contributions are never applied to event production or administrative costs
This separation ensures absolute clarity between:
- the Gala as an event, and
- the Fund as a purpose-led mechanism for access and impact
What the Fund Supports
The Fund enables three core pathways.
1. Arts Award Pathways for Children and Young People
The Fund supports young people in schools, cadet units, SEND settings and community organisations to begin or continue their Arts Award journey. This may include support for:
- Arts Award Discover
- Arts Award Explore
Where appropriate, funding may also enable progression into:
- Arts Award Bronze
- Arts Award Silver
- Arts Award Gold
Each pathway builds confidence, creativity, communication skills and civic awareness through meaningful, real-world arts engagement — often using stained glass as a medium for storytelling, symbolism and reflection.
2. Veterans’ Support Through the Lifeworks Programme
Under the Armed Forces Covenant, the Fund also supports veterans accessing employability and wellbeing support through the Lifeworks Programme. This reflects Reflections’ long-standing commitment to honouring service, resilience and community renewal — and ensures that veterans are supported with dignity and purpose as they transition into new chapters of life.
3. Removing Barriers to Participation
Where additional barriers exist, the Fund may also support costs that directly enable participation, including:
- workshop delivery
- SEND-appropriate facilitation
- materials and equipment
- accessibility or travel support
- digital evidence recording required for Arts Award
All support is assessed on a case-by-case basis and must demonstrably widen access to creative learning or developmental opportunity.
How Selection Works
Reflections does not select individual beneficiaries. Selection is handled by trusted partner organisations who know their members best, including:
- schools
- Sea Cadets
- St John Ambulance
- SEND settings
- Scotty’s Little Soldiers
- St Joseph’s Hospice
- Lifeworks veteran support teams
This approach ensures fairness, dignity and appropriate safeguarding. Reflections’ role is singular and clear: to remove the financial barrier — never to judge who is “deserving.”
Governance & Stewardship
The Reflections Arts & Veteran Fellowship Fund operates under a clear and transparent governance model.
- All contributions are ring-fenced
- Funds are used solely to widen access to creative learning and veteran support
- Expenditure may include Arts Award moderation fees, participation costs, accessibility needs and specialist facilitation that directly enables participation
- All spending is recorded and reviewed annually
Reflections does not hold or distribute funds arbitrarily.
It acts as a steward, ensuring alignment between purpose, partners and outcomes.
Annual Transparency
To honour the trust placed in the Fund, Reflections publishes a short annual public summary outlining:
- the number of young people supported through Arts Award
- the number of veterans supported through Lifeworks
- an overview of activity delivered
This provides accountability and traceability while protecting individual privacy.
