2024 – Sir Nicholas Lyons

Serving as the Lord Mayor of the City of London from 2022 to 2023 was a period of remarkable progress and profound privilege. On the 25th of June 2024, in the historic splendour of Haberdashers’ Hall, Sir Nicholas Lyons shared his reflections on the defining milestones and shared achievements of his mayoralty.

Receiving a knighthood in the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours List for contributions to the financial sector, the growth economy, and financial literacy was an honour Sir Nicholas described as deeply humbling. It represented not just personal recognition but a testament to the collective efforts of those who embraced his vision and championed the initiatives of his term.

At the heart of his mayoralty was the theme “Financing our Future”—a bold call to action for sustainable economic growth and financial inclusivity. This vision culminated in The Mansion House Compact, an ambitious initiative aimed at mobilising over £50 billion for investment in unlisted equities by 2030. By addressing long-term financing challenges, this effort reinforced London's standing as a global financial hub while promoting broader economic inclusivity.

Financial literacy and educational outreach were central to Sir Nicholas's commitments. He spoke with particular pride about National Numeracy, a valued partner of his Lord Mayor’s Appeal and the chosen beneficiary of the evening’s Gala. Their essential work aligns with his aspiration to empower individuals and communities through knowledge and understanding.
