Ahmet Deveci – Brentwood -Junior Sea Cadet Winner- 2021

1st Place - Leading Junior Cadet Ahmet Deveci
Sir Peter Estlin
Brentwood Sea Cadets
“The judges liked the overall structure of the design, with the various elements representing Sir Peter’s successes in digital technology surrounding the globe for his economic successes. The separation of colours would translate well into a leaded stained glass roundel, and the strong graphic imagery and bold design are eye-catching and engaging. Ahmet’s description of his choice of colours and design elements is aptly reflected in his design.”
"As the Commanding Officer of Brentwood Sea Cadets, it is an absolute honour to have my young cadets involved in such a fabulous competition.
It is such a unique experience for them to research the Lord Mayor of London, their role and the qualities which have procured them their position of responsibility for the City, and to then transfer that research into drawings which, if their designs are successful, are then transformed into stained glass. It is truly quite remarkable. I am so grateful to everyone involved and in particular, to the Master Glaziers for the outstanding gesture in realising young Ahmet's designs into the glass roundel. It has been truly life changing for this young cadet and has not only boosted his confidence, but has inspired many more cadets to get involved.
As we look favourably at our capital city from the outside, some may say we see it through rose-coloured glasses. This roundel competition plays with that concept and interestingly, through the roundel, we see 'reflections' of what the Lord Mayor of London represents through the eyes of a child. It is both a valuable insight and a powerful example of how the City and it's custodians resonate with the youth of today."
